| | In the News: 2008-09 OHS Cheerleaders The 2008-09 Cheerleading program is off to a great start. Tryouts were held in May and the team has been going non-stop since. June and July were full of fundraisers and practices. The team managed to raise over $3,500 in those two months alone through many carwashes, a yard sale, bake sale, and pizza night. Fundraising efforts will continue through the year to cover the costs of uniforms and camp. July was topped off with a trip to the United Spirit Association Camp at Cal State Sacramento. It was the first time in many years that Orland High attended a 4-day camp. The girls worked extremely hard and performed brilliantly! They came home with more awards than any other team attending camp, which was a real coup as they were up against many larger schools from Sacramento and the Bay area. Their awards included: Superior Plaque in Cheer Superior Plaque in Dance Spirit Awards (spirit stick) for both Cheer and Dance Unity Award for Dance (for the team the worked the best together) Brittnee McMannamy and Shay Moles were selected as “USA All-Stars”. They will receive a patch for their letterman’s jacket. They were also invited to perform in the New Year’s Day parade in London. Shay Moles and Brianna Pebley were asked to audition for camp staff positions. This is a great honor, only given to the most spirited and talented participants. Shay and Brianna were the only two girls from the entire camp who received this honor. With their Superior Plaques in Cheer and Dance, the girls received an invitation to perform in the halftime show at the 2009 Pro Bowl in Hawaii. Due to the expense of the trip, only seven girls have elected to go. They will be having many extra fundraisers dedicated to the trip, including a Spaghetti feed on October 18th. The team will be working hard to encourage school spirit and pride throughout the year. To the many individuals and businesses that have and will continue to support our program, we say thank you. GO TROJANS!! | | Coaches: Head Coach: Cailin Foster Cailin (Kennedy) Foster attended Orland schools, graduating from OHS in 1990. She began her cheerleading career at C.K. Price and continued cheering through all four years of high school. During her junior year, their cheer team performed in the halftime show of the Aloha Bowl. Cailin considers this a once in a lifetime experience and is thrilled that the current team has the opportunity to cheer at the Pro Bowl. Cailin attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she earned a BS in Business with a concentration in Accounting. Cailin continued her dedication to cheerleading, cheering both football and basketball seasons all through college. She is still amazed at the talent of the teammates she had on her full co-ed college squad, which included the 1992 National High School Champion Individual Dancer and the 1991 National Champion Majorette. Cailin recently moved back to Orland with her husband Marc and two children Brynna and Grant. She still loves to dance and perform, and continues to take classes at Hype Dance Studio. This is her first year coaching at OHS. Assistant Coach: Jennifer Ovitz Jennifer (Adams) Ovitz also attended Orland schools, graduating from OHS in 1991. Her cheerleading career began at the age of 6 when she dressed up as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader for Halloween!! Actually she began cheering at the age of 10 for Orland Youth Football. She continued cheerleading until the end of her Sophomore year. Jennifer was also a member of the cheerleading squad that performed at the Aloha Bowl in Hawaii in 1988. She too is extremely proud of the current squad and is excited about their Pro Bowl opportunity! | |
