Elected: 2000, 2004,2008
Term of Office Expires: 2012

Born and raised in the Capay District (ten miles northeast of Orland), I attended McIntosh Grammar School kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Hamilton Union High School in 1956.

After serving three years in the U.S. Navy, I married Nancy Larkin in Denver, Colorado in January of 1959. We have three grown children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In 1965, I started Ben's Iron Works, and I have been self-employed ever since. For the past 40 years, we have been manufacturing equipment for agriculture and industry, including designing and installing drying and storage facilities for rice and nuts. I am sill active in the business, sharing responsibilities with my son, Jerry.

Elected: 2010
Term of Office Expires: 2014

It is an honor to serve our community as a member of the OUSD Governing Board. I have been active in Orland since moving here in 1983. My wife Priscilla and I have three children; Melissa, Garrett and Cynthia. Melissa is an Orland High School Graduate, Garrett is a Graduate of Dunsmuir High School and Cynthia is currently enrolled at Orland High School.

After serving in Law Enforcement for over 31 years (serving Orland for 26 of those years) I retired as the Orland Police Chief in 2010. Following my retirement I made a conscious decision to serve the children of our community through the educational process. I am absolutely committed to making our children and our schools the best that they can be. I firmly believe that our children are our future.

Orland is one of the two fastest growing communities in the tri counties region (Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties). With a short commute to Chico State and Butte Community Colleges, and being at the intersection of 3 major highways Orland is truly the hub of the central Sacramento Valley and as such has a very bright future. It is my desire to help make decisions for the school district that provide direction and vision for the future that enhances the quality of education available to our children.

Serving Since 1972
Term of Office Expires: 2014

I am a lifelong resident of Glenn County. I attended Hamilton City schools through the twelfth grade. I attended Stanford University and California State University, Chico. My wife and three children are all successful graduates of the Orland School System.

In 1965, I moved to Orland and became owner of F.D. Sweet and Son Mortuary. I operated the business until my retirement in 2000.

I have been honored to serve on the Orland Board of Education since 1972. Orland is fortunate to have a very professional, competent and hard-working staff, and I am dedicated to supporting their efforts.

It is an honor and a privilege to represent the people of the Orland Unified School District as a Governing Board Member. I have lived in Glenn County all my life and my wife and I have raised four children, all of whom graduated from Orland High School. I have worked with children and adults for over thirty years and find no greater gift than education.

Orland is a wonderful place to live and I am humbled to be able to give back to the people and community who have given me so much.

I am in my third term on the board. I have found it to be an enriching and sometimes challenging position, and I have enjoyed it.

I come from a big family. My grandparents all came from Mexico and settled in northern California. My dad, brother, seven sisters and I all graduated from OHS. My mom grew up in the south county and graduated from Princeton High.

I am single and the only children I have in the district are my nieces, nephews and cousins.

I always liked school and received my degree in Social Sciences from CSU, Chico. I also took someone's advice and completed student teaching at Hamilton High and received a credential for Social Sciences.

My past activities have included being a teacher's aide, a Little League coach and umpire, a social worker, a claims adjuster and a travel counselor. I also have participated in many sports and am a die hard 49er fan. I currently work for an insurance company. Other interests I have are history, politics and playing Scrabble.

It is an honor to work with the district staff and represent the Orland community.
