| | Orland Unified School District is located in Glenn County, about 100 miles north of Sacramento, in the fertile Northern Sacramento River Valley. Interstate 5 passes through Orland and offers good views of the widely diverse agricultural activities that provide a strong economic base for the area. A strong sense of community pride makes Orland a great place to live, grow and raise children. The city of Orland is a family-oriented community with excellent schools, many churches, a well-managed city library, civic-minded service organizations, and strong law enforcement. The Orland Volunteer Fire Department has provided fire protection to city and rural residents for over 75 years. | |

| | - The District is proud that it has maintained a class size ratio that is among the lowest in the area. Grades K-3 and freshman English classes have fewer than 20 students each.
- In addition, we maintain a full K-12 music program (K-12 vocal and 5-12 instrumental), with substantial help from the Orland Music Boosters organization.
- An extensive vocational education program at Orland High School offers a variety of classes from woodshop, welding and auto shop to graphics, web design and retail.
- Orland High School is one of the only schools in the area to offer students behind-the-wheel drivers' training at no cost.
- Advanced Placement classes are offered for college-bound students.
- Wide-ranging, competitive sports program includes swimming, golf, tennis and soccer.
- Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a special class for disadvantaged students with college potential.
- Counseling services are available for students in grades 6-12.
- Award-winning Agriculture Program includes an experimental farm project through the University of California.
- Through an active partnership with Butte College and California State University, Chico, Orland High students can concurrently enroll in and receive credit for college courses.
- Students take field trips to Monterey, Yosemite, Ashland and San Francisco.
- Positive relationships exist among administration, employee groups and parents (Interest-Based Bargaining is used for negotiations and other issues.)
- Teachers and administrators receive State and National Honors.

| | Orland Unified is dedicated to achieving high standards. The state standards are taught at all grade levels with state-approved, newly-adopted textbooks and supporting materials. For example, these world-class standards start kids learning algebra concepts in the first grade. Sophisticated computer software tracks each student's progress, so that academic programs can be tailored to meet individual needs. The District plans to offer this software to parents, so they can participate more fully in their child's education.
Since the Orland schools are now unified, curriculum articulation allows future teachers to build on the successes of the past. The goal is to provide seamless transitions between all levels of education, so that students do not experience gaps or unnecessary overlaps in their learning. | |

| | The District has over 600 network-ready computers connected to a district-wide network. Network connections are used for Internet research, classroom instruction and communication among classrooms.
We also have automated attendance and reporting, automated access to media center resources, and a District intranet for administrative and academic communication. | |

| | Orland High School maintains a full slate of athletic teams for both men and women, with 13 varsity sports. The high school is a member of the Westside League of the North Section of the California Interscholastic Federation.
The Orland Athletic Boosters organization donates a substantial amount of time and money to benefit the Orland High School interscholastic athletic program. | |

| | The Glenn County Office of Education supports the Orland Unified School District by providing a variety of assertive services, including business, special education, Regional Occupational Programs, curriculum and instructional technology. The County Office also helps coordinate activities with other districts in the county for better service to students. | |
